Several years ago I had the most awful thing happen. I was attacked by a dog! Not just any dog at some unknown place, but at my parent’s house. They had a big rottweiler who was protecting his house against this stranger who unknowingly entered at the wrong time – me. What a big shake up this event caused in my life!
I suppose there were a couple of reasons. I became terrified of that dog. I no longer felt safe at their house, and I suspect it reminded me too much of my childhood feelings of being frightened and trapped. On top of that, I was supposed to ignore these terrible feelings and pretend nothing happened just like when I was a little girl. But this time, I could no longer suppress these intense emotions.
Perhaps God allows circumstances such as this for a greater purpose? I can’t be certain, but I do know this incident hurt so much that I could not face visiting my parents at their house. It was too painful. Like my childhood, I was expected to “get over it” like all the other things that happened. Sadly seven years passed before I took the necessary steps to move past this situation.
During this time, I received an unusual dream with heavenly instructions:
My Heavenly Father came to visit me. He asked if I would accompany Him to visit my earthly father on Long Island, NY. While I didn’t say “NO” , I did cry with panic, “I can’t! I can’t! I just can’t face this situation!” My Father was very sad, but He understood.
Next thing I know, I am planning to go out that evening. I ask if I can take a shower in His bathroom. Of course my Father answers, “Yes. Go ahead and take that shower.” I proceed into the bathroom, turn on the water, but find the faucet doesn’t work because there’s a big clog in the pipes. UGH!
When I look to see why there is a clog, there is a plastic shopping bag along with an empty orange juice container shoved into the commode. UGH! UGH! So I run back to my Father and ask Him if He can help me get the water running.
His answer is, “Flush three times.” That answer sounds absolutely crazy to me and I question His wisdom, “Have you seen that clog? I don’t think that will work!” However, I know I must obey and say, “But because You said it – I will do it.”
So I returned to the bathroom, flushed exactly three times as instructed, and miraculously, the clog disappears and the water starts working. I take my shower. YEA!
I WAKE UP!
So what was that dream all about? These symbols are quite common in bathroom dreams. I’d love to hear your thoughts as I’ll reveal its meaning in my next blog post.
