One lazy afternoon my husband and I trekked out for some homemade ice cream. After enjoying this creamy delight, my heart sank as I remembered I accidentally left my purse at the store. “Lord, please let my purse still be there!” as we swiftly returned to the store. Alas, it was gone.
I remember the moment like yesterday. This thief had stolen more than just my purse. He had my money, my credit cards, the keys to both our cars, the keys to our house AND my name and my address. My upset husband spoke, “Barb, how could you let this happen?” I shouted my defense, “Don’t worry. My God will return it somehow!”
The next day was Sunday, and I faithfully marched to church for prayer. For a day or two I felt peace, confident that God would answer my prayer. No need to notify the credit card companies of my blunder. But after 3 days, I realized my foolishness. No purse. Shame that I was irresponsible. Anxiety that I didn’t act wisely. Fear of the recourse of my actions, I finally took the steps necessary for realistic recovery. I bought myself a new purse. I called the credit card companies. Got new copies of keys for my car and house. I even got a new driver’s license.
Scroll ahead 2 weeks. I hear this little thought,“You don’t need the Lord to return your purse. You already recovered everything.” As I pondered this devious voice, I knew it wasn’t God. I knew I couldn’t give up even if it seemed no longer profitable. So I spoke to God, “Lord, that purse was mine. It was wrongfully stolen. I am asking you to send it back in your name. I am going to believe you – no matter how long it takes and no matter what! ” At that moment, something happened. I crossed over from hope to faith.
It was my purse! It was 19 days later, but everything that was stolen had been returned including all the contents of my purse! Truly God proved himself to me. Nothing is impossible for Him. I could ask Him for anything.
Stay tuned and I’ll tell you about this unusual dream in part 2 of this story – for our God is a “GOD OF MIRACLES” for you and me!
