This type of dream has the potential to happen as you see it. A literal dream requires no interpretation for it does not contain any symbolism. That means you need to watch closely as these real events could unfold before your eyes. But how can you know?
A friend of mine once told me this story. She dreamt that she was driving her car and the sun blocked her vision. In the dream she kept driving and accidentally hit a child playing in the street. The next day she found herself living that dream, but heeded the advice. She stopped her car and found that she would have hit that child. Wow! But how did she know?
I believe literal dreams could happen to any of us. While I can’t explain it, I know to pay attention, pray about the nature of what I see, err on the side of safety, and follow the Holy Spirit.
Most often my dreams are symbolic, but once in awhile I have a literal dream. Many years ago while I was fasting and praying, I suddenly had this literal dream.
Scene 1: I was in the hospital having surgery. I dreamt of doctors continually poking me with needles, and it hurt. (I somehow sensed this surgery was related to having children, but wasn’t sure. )
Scene 2: I am looking out my kitchen window and am stunned at what I see. There is a beautiful in-ground pool in my backyard – one of my heart’s dreams.
I WAKE UP!
Honestly, I didn’t know what to do about this dream; and so, I just tucked in my heart.
It was over ten years before this dream came to pass. Apparently God knew what was going to happen, and He gave me a glimpse of my future – about the infertility treatments that I would undergo to have a child and a blessing of an in-ground pool . It’s interesting that God would reveal a difficult circumstance that I was to walk out along with a big blessing. But how did I know?
I believe that one can recognize a literal dream by the lack of symbolism and the fact that it can live out in your real life. Hope you’ll share your thoughts, and I’ll share mine in my next post.
What’s your experience with literal dreams? How did you know and what did you do about it?
