Today I’m going to share something personal. It’s about my dad.
While I was visiting my parents’ house about 10 years ago, I was attacked by their dog. It stirred up the past, resurfaced old wounds, and sowed a new offense. I desperately tried to jump over that fence, but I just wasn’t able to do it in my own strength.
One of my prayers was, “Lord, please help me to forgive. ” Another prayer was for my dad, “Lord, I know my dad’s health is not the greatest because of his diabetes. Please don’t let him die until this situation is resolved.”
Recently, I was thinking how faithful God has been in answering my prayers.
For you see, the doctors discovered some abnormal growths on his bladder a few years ago. He was told they almost certainly turn into cancer. However, because they were detected early, these growths were removed with no residual effects.
Last summer my dad was diagnosed with stage 2 lung cancer. In August, he had 40% of his lung removed. Then, he had to endure 16 treatments of chemo. Doctors thought he would recover, but of course, there is no guarantee. Doctors said that if he lived, he could live a normal life – just not able to do strenuous activity.
On January 3rd, he finished all of his chemo treatments. Last week, mom and dad called to tell me the results of dad’s full body scan.
NO MORE CANCER! NONE! NADA! ZILCHO! Plus, he does not have to undergo radiation!
PRAISE THE LORD!
The Lord has even helped me rid myself of those offenses through healing prayer. I am learning to look to Him – not to people, not even my parents.
And you know what? We are going to CELEBRATE with a trip to Hawaii together! Over 17 years ago, my husband and I traveled with my parents to Hawaii. It will be our second time in Hawaii, and hopefully, we’ll have a wonderful time filled with sweet memories just like before.
Isn’t it interesting that while trying to book our flights with free air miles, the only dates available were on Valentine’s Day, 2/14/12? At that time, I did not know that know that Dad would be sick last year, but God knew.
It looks like God has perfectly planned this trip! Dad will be well enough to travel and enjoy it. He will even turn 75 years old while we are there. Now that’s another celebration!
I sense God saying …. I am presenting you with a new opportunity to create beautiful new memories from an old damaged relationship. Do you believe God gives new opportunities to start over? I’m beginning to believe.
Again, I know God is with us. He has good plans. He blesses us with His favor. Do you believe that too?
It’s HIS GIFT.
