What if doctors told you that your only choice for life would be dialysis? You won’t believe this amazing healing for this week’s story of hope. I heard about it through my good friend Cindy about her beloved brother.
Known by many as “The Mayor” of an RV resort in Florida, Larry remains a hard working retired entrepreneur with an unquenchable spirit. A man who wears many hats, he is always willing to roll up his sleeves to help anyone in need, but one day this special guy had the most excruciating ache in his left ear.
Of course, Larry checked into the hospital, but when he left, he felt most unsettled. Within two days, he went for a stress test, followed by a triple bypass and then.. Larry saw blood when he went to the bathroom two months later. Still recovering from that major surgery, doctors quarterized the ulcers in his stomach, but now there was a bigger problem.
Larry found himself on a dialysis machine! Three times a week he required hemodialysis to filter his blood just to stay alive. Confined to a chair for four and a half hours every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, he felt rolled over by a truck the next day. Yet, with Sunday the only good day of his week, Larry pressed on believing God for better days.
After about eight months, Larry decided to switch to peritoneal dialysis so he could do this procedure at home. Unlike hemo dialysis, a tube was inserted in his stomach and these treatments were seven days a week. Thankfully, Larry managed to automate the peritoneal process so it could be completed while he slept, but when was this nightmare going to end?
Candidly asking his doctor, Larry lamented, “Exactly how l.o.n.g. must I do dialysis?…”
The only response was a lock to a life sentence.
With a fierce determination, Larry rebuked the bad report, ” I am going to get better… I am going off dialysis!” Even his sister Cindy kindly offered her kidney should he need it, and Larry forged forward.
Regularly Larry’s numbers were checked by professional medical staff, but one day something seemed to change. Around seven months later, a nurse noticed some improvements and commented, “You know, all your numbers are starting to look good again. Could this be possible?”
“Y.E.S. and Amen.” Larry reclaimed.
Seemingly impossible but it was true. The results were undeniable.
Fifteen months later, Larry was… miraculously healed.
But there’s more.
Diagnosed with diabetes thirty-five years ago, Larry was accustomed to reading his own glucose levels and injecting himself with insulin; however, he wanted to switch to using an automated pump which continuously monitors your blood sugar levels releasing just the right amount of insulin into your body. Once again, the doctors thought this was impossible.
“Wait and see,” Larry announced with confidence, “for I will make it work.”
And right again he was. Indeed, he is a walking miracle because of the grace of God.
Larry told me that he asked the Lord to heal him and every day he thanked God for doing it. “Many people were praying for me,” he credited, “and surely God heard those prayers and honored my faith.” He can’t say it enough, “Praise God and praise Him again. All you have to do is believe and trust Him.” ”
So let’s start the conversation…
I love hearing a faith building story. I want to believe that God will do that for me, but I definitely find it difficult when walking through the adversity. That’s what makes Larry’s story so incredible. He went through all those trials and refused to receive the negative news. That’s why I am so grateful for my church community and friends who will pray; and yet, I still have so many questions. How about you?
What do you think about supernatural healing?
Does God ever use the smaller problems to fix the bigger ones? Why might He do that?
Can God can deliver you from a serious sickness? Do you believe He will?
Are you ever tempted to give up? What could be hindering your faith?
And finally… can my friends Larry and Cindy, and I pray for you today?
