I just finished reading the story of the virgin Mary and the birth of Christ (Luke 1:26-56). When Mary first saw that angel, she was afraid. However, she was told to rejoice because the Lord was with her. Indeed, Mary was highly favored and blessed among women.
So thinking more about Mary’s amazing story, I realized this…..
She didn’t say “no”, she simply asked “how”.
How can this be?
How many times has the Lord asked me to do something that didn’t make sense? And yet, when I stepped out in faith, the Holy Spirit came to my rescue. That’s exactly what the angel said to Mary in Luke 1:35: “… The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.”
As many of you know, I’ve been writing this book on biblical dream interpretation. My hope is that this real-life-barbie-doll somehow mixes with Joseph, one of the the master dream interpreters of the Bible. Like Joseph, I am delivered from the slavery of sin and the prison walls of my mind. Presently, I am walking this journey of healing and hope – from my past into my future. Like Joseph, my goal is use my gift of dream interpretation to point people to God – for don’t all interpretations belong to God anyway (Genesis 40:8)?
Every thing in me screams that this doesn’t make sense. I hear the enemy taunting with his shouts of doubts:
You are not a professional writer and speaker.
You are not talented. You don’t have the resources that you need.
You will never finish this thing that you have started.
It will never be of any value to anyone.
No one wants to hear what you have to say.
Who do you think you are anyway?
The enemy is right. I am only an ordinary person who can’t do anything of lasting value without God’s help.
But then – so was Mary! An ordinary young woman, she accepted what this angel said. Yet, she did not know how. She responded with a “yes” to God. She spoke “Let it be done unto me according to Your word. (Luke 1:38)” She believed in God’s promises.
This Christmas and throughout the year, I am blessed because I believe in His promises – even though it doesn’t make sense. I keep moving forward because all things are possible with Him.
Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!” Luke 1:45
What promises are you believing for? Are you blessed with belief?
