Does anyone realize that we are coming up on the 50th anniversary of the Six-Day War? This war, fought from June 5 through June 10, 1967 was between Israel and the Arab nations, Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, and Lebanon. Other Arab nations were also in support of this war against Israel. PLEASE NOTE that this coming week… there is a movie about this amazing story regarding the historic battle for Jerusalem. It’s called IN OUR HANDS , and it will be in theaters on June 1 and June 6.
Surely, Israel was outnumbered; however, God gave them a miracle and they were victorious. Maybe you’d like to know more by watching this movie trailer?
So why is Israel important? Do you know what the Bible says about Jerusalem, the Jewish people and their land? There is so much history that has already occurred to confirm God’s calling for His chosen people; and yet, there is so much more on the horizon.
Below are just a few points that I thought I’d share today:
God says Jerusalem is the city where He dwells.
For the Lord has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His dwelling place: “This is My resting place forever; Here I will dwell, for I have desired it. -Psalm 132:13-14
Jesus predicted the destruction of the temple, and it happened just like He prophesied. The Romans utterly annihilated Jerusalem in 70 AM AD. During the long history of Jerusalem, this city has been has been destroyed at least twice, besieged 23 times, attacked 52 times, and captured and recaptured 44 times.
And Jesus said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down.” -Matthew 24:1-2
Satan has always desired to destroy God’s chosen people and the nation of Israel, because they are called by God to be a blessing to the nations. Just think of all the times that the Jewish people have been persecuted and killed. It has happened throughout the centuries all over the world, including the terrible Holocaust. In fact, after the Roman destruction of Jerusalem (70 AD) and the Bar Kokhba Revolt (135 AD), the Emperor Hadrian cursed Israel by renaming their land to Syrian Palestine and the capital city to Capitolina. That was the beginning of Jerusalem being trampled by the Gentiles.
And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. –Luke 21:24
But God still loves His people, Israel…!!!!
“Comfort, yes, comfort My people!” Says your God.
“Speak comfort to Jerusalem, and cry out to her,
That her warfare is ended, That her iniquity is pardoned;
For she has received from the Lord’s hand. Double for all her sins.”
The voice of one crying in the wilderness: “Prepare the way of the Lord; Make straight in the desert, A highway for our God. -Isaiah 40:1-3
God will bring His people, and restore them back to the land He gave them. We who are alive in this day, can see the mighty hand of God doing great things for His beloved chosen ones. From of the dust, Israel became a nation in 1948, and Jerusalem once again came came under the control of the Israeli government.
When the Lord brought back the captivity of Zion,
We were like those who dream.
Then our mouth was filled with laughter,
And our tongue with singing.
Then they said among the nations,
“The Lord has done great things for them.” -Psalm 126:1-2
Prior to the Jews returning to Israel, the land was an absolute wasteland. Today, there is a great return of the people to their land and to their language. In the history of the world, no other enslaved people has ever returned. The land is now flowing with milk and honey, filled with modern inventions and new technologies. This awesome fulfillment is truly is God’s handiwork.
Therefore hear, O Israel, and be careful to observe it, that it may be well with you, and that you may multiply greatly as the Lord God of your fathers has promised you—‘a land flowing with milk and honey.’[
“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one!5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. -Deuteronomy 6:3
I could go on and talk more about the prophetic destiny of Israel, that they are called to be a blessing so that all nations will be blessed (Genesis 18:18) but for now…. why no just go see the movie?
